Will the USA ship to Ukraine? The question is again at the heart of the debates as the war that started in Ukraine more than a year ago continues unabated. Yesterday, US senators brought the subject back on the table in a memo to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from eight senators.
The news had aroused strong reactions yesterday Tuesday, March 14, 2023. In the Black Sea an incident occurred with the final crash of an American drone. Russia responded hours later denying any responsibility for the incident as the war in Ukraine continues. In the aftermath we learn that American senators from the ranks of the Democrats and that of the Republicans are trying to pressure the Pentagon so that F-16 fighters are transferred to Ukraine. This would allow Ukraine to regain the advantage of the situation which is at a “critical point” according to these American senators.
Will the USA ship to Ukraine? The question is again at the heart of the debates as the war that started in Ukraine more than a year ago continues unabated. Yesterday, US senators brought the subject back on the table in a memo to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin from eight senators. Believing that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is “now at a critical moment” , senators believe that delivering F-16 fighters to Kiev would turn the tide.
The information concerning the letter was revealed by the Politico media which delivered excerpts from the note in its publication on its site. “ After speaking with U.S., Ukrainian and foreign leaders working to support Ukraine at the Munich Security Conference last month, we believe the United States needs to carefully consider providing F-16 aircraft to Ukraine ,” the senators wrote. “It would be an important and potentially game-changing capability on the battlefield ,” the note continues.
The senators demanded to know what would have to be done to make this delivery a reality A way of putting pressure on the current American administration which until then had not left to deliver fighters to the Zelensky regime . As a reminder, yesterday evening, an incident occurred at sea causing the crash of an American drone which, according to the authorities, was doing routine work. Russia was very quickly accused of being responsible for this incident. Something that Moscow categorically rejected.
“Our MQ-9 drone was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian aircraft, causing a crash and the total loss of the MQ-9,” said General Hecker, commander of the air forces in Europe, in a statement widely relayed by the media before insisting. “in fact, this unprofessional and risky act almost caused the loss of both devices” . For the Americans, these are always aggressive actions, “dangerous and could lead to miscalculations and unintentional escalation” .
