CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland police are searching for a 35-year-old man who they say shot and killed his child’s mother and then kidnapped their 7-year-old child.

Jovon Lynch, 34, of Cleveland was found dead inside a car in the shooting that happened just before 9 a.m. Wednesday on Huntmere Avenue near East 161st Street, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner and Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia.

The 7-year-old has since been dropped off at the Elyria Police Station by her father for family members to retrieve her, Ciaccia said. She is not injured.

Officers responded to Huntmere Avenue on a suspicious activity call.

When they arrived they spoke with residents and found a woman, later identified as Lynch, dead inside a car with a gunshot wound to the head, Ciaccia said. They learned her daughter was missing.

Investigators say the man shot his child’s mother and left with his child in another car.

After an extensive search, police found the girl at the Elyria Police Station. She was dropped off by her father, Ciaccia said.

The man has not yet been arrested and the incident remains under investigation.
