Ohio’s Senate President is preparing to transition to the House of Representatives as its next Speaker. Matt Huffman, unanimously elected by the House Republican Caucus earlier this month, will succeed current Speaker Jason Stephens in early 2025. Huffman, who previously served as speaker pro tempore in the House, plans to implement changes to its operations.
Huffman aims to adopt a leadership style similar to the Senate, emphasizing communication and efficiency. “I want to ensure meetings start on time, everyone is informed, and policy priorities reflect the collective goals of the Republican Caucus,” Huffman stated, adding that he will work closely with new members to shape the agenda.
He has already begun meeting with state representatives and plans to continue these discussions in the coming months to strengthen collaboration ahead of the full House vote for Speaker in January.
Huffman’s election marks a significant shift in leadership dynamics, as he brings experience and a focus on policy alignment within the Republican Caucus.
The transition to his role as Speaker will see Huffman working to unify members and prioritize effective governance in the Ohio House.
