Northeast Ohio Road Projects: What New Detours Can Drivers Expect?


We’re well into spring in Northeast Ohio, meaning warmer weather conditions and more road construction projects.

That also means more traffic disruptions for commuters. The Ohio Department of Transportation has released an updated list of projects that will impact traffic over the next few weeks in the Cleveland area.

Downtown Cleveland

Ohio 176 north to West 14th Street will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on April 21 and April 22 for routine bridge inspection. The detour is Ohio 176 to Interstate 90 to West 41st Street to I-90 to I-71.

Ohio 176 between I-71 and I-90 will have various lane restriction between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. from April 21 through April 26 for routine bridge inspection.

Cuyahoga County

I-90 eastbound just east of Columbia Road will be in a bi-directional traffic pattern beginning Wednesday and continuing through July for bridge deck replacement. All lanes of traffic are maintained. However, one lane of eastbound traffic will be maintained on the I-90 westbound side separated by a concrete barrier wall. Two lanes of traffic are on the existing eastbound side.

Ohio 17 (Brookpark Road) between West 52nd Street and I-480 eastbound ramps will have various lane restrictions and traffic-pattern shifts beginning Monday and continuing through August for resurfacing.

I-480 eastbound and westbound between Rocky River Drrive and just east of West 150th Street will have various off-peak lane restrictions for overhead bridge repairs beginning Monday and continuing through mid-April.

I-271 between Emery Road to Fairmount Road will have various off-peak lane restrictions and ramp closures beginning on Monday and continuing through September for resurfacing.

I-480 westbound over Northfield Road will have various lane restrictions beginning Monday and continuing through April 19.

U.S. 422 westbound over Richmond Road will have various lane restrictions beginning Monday through April 19 for bridge repairs.

U.S. 422 westbound over Miles Road will have various lane restrictions beginning Monday and continuing through April 19 for bridge repairs.

U.S. 422 westbound between Brainard Road and I-480 will have various lane restrictions and traffic-pattern shifts beginning April 22 and continuing through May for bridge repairs. All lanes of traffic will be maintained.

Geauga County

U.S. 422 at Mumford Road will have various lane restrictions beginning today (April 12) and continuing through July for culvert replacement.

U.S. 422 westbound to Mumford Road northbound will be closed to alltruck traffic beginning April 26. The detour is Main Market Road to Claridon Troy Road to Tavern Road.

Ohio 608 at Alexander Road will have one lane of traffic maintained by a temporary traffic signal beginning Thursday and continuing through May for a culvert replacement.

Lake County

I-90 between Ohio 174 and Riverside Drive will have various lane restrictions and traffic-pattern shifts beginning on Monday and continuing through October for slope repairs.

Mantel Road over Ohio 2 will be closed from April 22 through mid-August for bridge replacement. The detour is U.S. 20 to Ohio 535.

Medina County

Ohio 162 between Ridge Road (Ohio 94) and State Road will close April 22 for a culvert replacement. The detour is Ohio 162 east to Ohio 94 north to Ohio 18 east to I-77 south to Ohio 21 south to Ohio 162 west, and reverse. The project should be completed by May 3.

Portage County

Ohio 59 in Ravenna will have various lane restrictions for resurfacing beginning Monday. The project should be completed by late July.

Summit County

The ramp from I-77 northbound to I-76 westbound will be closed 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. today and Friday. The detour is I-76 eastbound to Arlington Street/Kelly Avenue to I-76 westbound.

The ramp from Carrol Street to Ohio 8 southbound will be closed at 9 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday. A detour will be posted.

Ohio 8/I-77 southbound at the Central Interchange will be closed at 10 p.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday. The detour is I-76 westbound to I-76/Kenmore Leg to I-277 eastbound to I-77.

The ramp from Ohio 8 southbound to I-76 eastbound will be closed from 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. The detour is I-76 westbound to Main Street to I-76 eastbound.

I-77/Ohio 8 southbound between Johnston Street and Carroll Street will be in a new traffic pattern beginning 5 a.m. Monday. Southbound motorists will be split into two separate lanes. The left lane will be crossed over onto the northbound direction, while the right lane will remain on the southbound side. Motorists wishing to exit at I-76 eastbound and westbound will need to remain in the right lane.

Ohio 8/I-77 northbound at the Central Interchange will close between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly between Tuesday and Thursday morning. The detour is I-76 westbound to Main Street/I-76 eastbound to Ohio 8 northbound.

Lakeshore Boulevard under I-76 will close from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday for a concrete bridge deck pour. The northbound detour is South Street to Princeton Street to Russell Street to Lakeshore Boulevard. The southbound detour is Russell Street to Ohio 93/Manchester Road to South Street to Lakeshore Boulevard.

Ohio 59 between Ohio 8 and the Portage County line will have various lane restrictions beginning Monday and continuing through late August.

Trumbull County

Ohio 5 will close just north of Bushnell Campbell Road beginning April 29 and continuing through late May. The detour is Ohio 88 to Ohio 7.

Ohio 46 just south of Ohio 88 will close Monday through Thursday for a culvert replacement. The detour is Ohio 5 to Ohio 88 to Ohio 46.
