The Buckeyes are back in Ohio Stadium on Saturday and Skull Session is returning to TVs, phones and laptops around the country. For the third year in a row, the beloved pregame tradition returns to YouTube for those who cannot watch it live in St. John Arena.
The Ohio State University Office of Marketing and Communications will livestream Skull Session before the game against Youngstown State on Saturday morning and before each home game for the rest of the season. The livestream can be found on the Ohio State News YouTube channel through the website or on the YouTube app.
“We’re excited to be back and to provide fans everywhere with a live broadcast of Skull Session. Each year we work to improve the quality and the experience for our viewers,” said Director of National Broadcast Media Joe Camoriano. “We’re ready for year three. If you tune in a couple of hours before each home game, you’ll get to see one of the best fan experiences in the country.”
Camoriano and a team of videographers will stream Skull Session using seven different cameras and multiple microphones to capture the action from all angles.
Skull Session originally served as a final music rehearsal for the Ohio State Marching Band prior to its performance on the field. It has evolved into one of the most anticipated game day traditions for Buckeye fans. Doors to St. John Arena open four hours prior to kickoff and the arena can quickly fill up.
“The livestream of Skull Session is an exciting opportunity to enjoy this game day tradition for our fans around the world,” said band Director Christopher Hoch. “If you cannot be with us at St. John Arena on game day, we’re happy to be able to bring you some of that Ohio State spirit wherever you are.”
TBDBITL marches into the arena and plays “Fanfare for a New Era” as the football team arrives. Coach Ryan Day, assistant coaches and players often speak each week to the fans before they head to the stadium. The band then performs a final musical run-through of its pregame and halftime shows before game time.
