SANTA CLARA, Calif. – When looking for a new home, there are a number of factors to consider, including the location, affordability, community and more.
Proximity to work is another important factor for home-seekers to consider – even with work-from-home flexibility implemented across many industries – as is proximity to major metropolitan areas.
All factors considered, one U.S. ZIP code stands out as the most in-demand area for prospective home buyers, and it’s located right here in Ohio.
Gahanna, Ohio – ZIP code 43230 and a suburb of Columbus – is the most in-demand housing market in the U.S., according to Realtor.com’s 2023 Hottest ZIP Codes rankings.
“This year’s Hottest ZIP Code is Gahanna, Ohio (43230), which continues the legacy of Columbus, Ohio markets appearing on the Hottest ZIP codes list,” Realtor.com writes in its rankings. “The greater Columbus area offers home buyers the amenities and quality-of-life advantages of a larger town, but at a lower price. It’s home to The Ohio State University, the Short North Arts District as well as a captivating food scene. Homes in this zip code were priced 12.7% below the national median in June – and with more than a quarter of its population aged 25-34, it’s favorable for young renters and buyers alike.”
“This ranking is an incredible testament to the high quality of life that Gahanna offers,” Gahanna Mayor Laurie Jadwin said in a statement. “As a city, we are focused on providing a safe community, delivering quality services, and fostering a welcoming community that promotes connectivity. This designation reaffirms that Gahanna is a top tier and highly desirable community within the ever-growing Columbus region.”
Realtor.com conducted its rankings by measuring the following metrics: housing market demand, as measured in unique viewers per property online; market pace, as measured by the number of days a listing remains active online; and median listing price, as of June 2023.

“As many companies continue to call employees back to the office, we’re seeing a surge in home shoppers who are seeking a desirable combination of cost and convenience within commuting distance of major metropolitan areas,” Realtor.com Chief Economist Danielle Hale said in a news release. “In addition to affordable markets, this year’s list also features some higher priced areas close to large urban cores, which will likely appeal to buyers who are concerned with finding the right mix of size and amenities within reach of a nearby city center.”
No cities located in the West or South made the top 10, largely due to “high prices in the West and high price growth during the pandemic in the South,” according to Realtor.com.
