U.S. Department of State Celebrates the Dedication of the New U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay

U.S. Ambassador Marc Ostfield, along with representatives of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO), U.S. Mission personnel, and Paraguayan officials, gathered today to celebrate the dedication of the new U.S. Embassy in Asunción, Paraguay.  The completion of the new Embassy marks a significant milestone in the more than 150-year friendship between the United States and Paraguay.  The Embassy, located on the existing 14-acre site, highlights the best of U.S. architecture, engineering, and construction expertise – drawing from Paraguayan architectural customs and using local materials.

The newly renovated compound is designed to reduce environmental impact and optimize building performance, featuring dedicated green spaces and areas for celebrating the artistic heritage of both U.S. and Paraguayan cultures.  ZGF Architects of Portland, Oregon, served as the project’s architect, while Caddell Construction Company of Montgomery, Alabama, constructed the campus, investing approximately $60 million in the local economy.

Since the start of the Department’s Capital Security Construction Program in 1999, the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) has completed 177 new diplomatic facilities and has more than 50 active projects in design or construction worldwide.

OBO provides safe, secure, functional, and resilient facilities that represent the U.S. government to the host nation and that support U.S. diplomats in advancing U.S. foreign policy objectives abroad.
